2023 FLOODS RELIEF - HOUSE SYSTEM+

open competition - 1ST PRIZE

The design of the catalogue of one- and two-family houses, to meet the needs of those affected by the floods of summer 2023, proposes a systemic solution.

HOUSE SYSTEM+ incorporates the great diversity of needs of those affected by the floods. In addition to the diversity in size, layout and use scenarios, the ability to easily adapt further to different life stages is also key. HOUSE SISTEM+ enables quality living in a barrier-free house for every home community whose individual member has a temporary or permanent mobility impairment.

HOUSE SYSTEM+ proposes two core modules:

Module O (narrow house) = house width 6.4 m

Module Š (wide house) = house width 7.9 m

The construction and design of the modular system allow for a series of adaptations according to the diversity of needs:

  • Module lengthening/shortening (fixed width, the length can be adjusted)

  • Elevation of the module (ground floor (GF) or ground floor and first floor (GF+1F))

  • Adding modules (assembling or adding modules)

GROUND FLOOR UNIVERSAL HOUSE (GF) presents a lifelong design, which aims at universal design and allows variant solutions for a house without stairs for both Module O and Module Š.

COMPACT HOUSE (GF+1F or GF+1F) represents an alternative to the ground floor house as a compact volume with a mansard or upper floor, aiming at minimum plot built-up within a single volume. It pursues the idea of an energy-efficient house with the minimal heated volume.
